Candles that make scents

So why soy? There are many misleading candles out in the market that label themselves as using natural wax (because paraffin wax is technically natural), and although they do have a great scent throw; they derive from petroleum. Some have stated that paraffin wax has up to 11 carcinogens; although from our own internet research, we haven’t yet found reputable sources to back this up (if anyone does have that information, we would love to read about it to inform others), but we did find a couple of studies that show that paraffin wax is known to be an irritant to the human body and also takes a long time to biodegrade.

This is where Soy comes in; it is non-toxic, it comes from a vegetable, so it naturally biodegrades. We use 100% soy wax that is renewable and is not GM (genetically modified). Soy wax burns cleaner and slower than paraffin wax, leaving no petrol-carbon soot, and giving them a longer life-span than paraffin candles.

Let’s face it, the female form is incredible; not only is it beautiful but it can create babies out of nowhere, and nourish them too, so let’s celebrate with this modern take on the classical nude statues.

5% of profits from each Maja candle sold will go towards @supportthegirlsaus www.supportthegirls.com.au an organisation to help girls and women in Australia who are in a vulnerable or disadvantaged stage in their lives.

Why Maja?

This candle was inspired by Venus and Maja; the paintings. If you’re unsure about what we’re talking about, let us give you a small art history lesson. La Maja desnuda or ‘The nude Maja’, painted around 1797–1800 A.C. by Francisco Goya. It sparked huge controversy because it depicted a nude woman as... a nude woman!! She is laying full frontal staring unashamed at the viewer and she has pubic hair! How could she! Famous nude works before this were all of women laying in sensual poses, gazing off in their own little world.

It was ground-breaking in its time; finally, instead of nude women portrayed as perfect goddesses (the classical versions of photoshopped celebrities), she was painted as simple just a woman.

We’ve come a very long way since, and still have more to go #freethenip, but let’s celebrate the wins we do have anyways.

We pour in limited small batches, and because of the nature of soy wax, so there can be slight imperfections or colour variations.

Maja is currently made unscented. If you would like a something scented, please feel free to check out our terrarium range or request our Maja candle to be made with your favourite scent far an additional fee.
